We all know it can be hard to find the right furniture piece for your space, no matter the size. These big decisions can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to coffee tables. If you buy a table too small, it can underwhelm your space and feel desolate. If you buy one too big, it can make the space feel crowded and unbalanced. The good news is, there are some tips you can follow to ensure your room looks cohesive and balanced, while giving you the confidence you need to make these big decisions. I am excited to share them with you today, as well as some of my favorite finds!
It is really quite simple. The first thing you want to consider is the size of your sofa. After you measure your sofa, then you can focus on finding a table with length and width dimensions that will work in your space. Here are some tips below.
Height
A good rule of thumb is to pick a coffee table that is 1-2 inches lower than the height of your sofa. This makes it easy to access anything from your coffee table or to kick up your feet when you want to relax.
Length
To create balance in your space, you’re going to want to buy a table that is approximately two-thirds the length of your sofa. This creates visual chemistry between the furniture, making everything look balanced and proportionate.
Width
Once you have decided where to place your coffee table, it is best to allow 12-18 inches of space between the table and the seating around it. This allows for easy maneuvering around the table and comfortable floor traffic without tripping or having to do a side shuffle.
