Hi all! If you’ve been following along, you know that this home renovation has been a slow one! However, we have made some great progress that I would love to share with you all. There’s still some things we’d like to do but you can get an overall idea of where we are going with Phase 1.
When purchasing our home, this was the room that immediately caught our eye. As you can see, it is quite spacious but feels exceptionally cozy as it connects to our kitchen and dining area. First and foremost, we wanted to brighten up this space and get it somewhat furnished. We painted our walls SW Alabaster, added a new light fixture, and added some new hardwood. We went back and forth with the layout between a sectional and built ins, or two grand sofas, armchairs, and ottomans with the fireplace as the focal point. Our goal was to create a sophisticated yet casual living space that would be nice for entertaining, as well as comfortable for everyday use. We ultimately decided to go with two identical sofas facing each-other to open up the space and invite people to look at each-other and engage in conversation. We purchased two deep seat, York Sofas from Pottery Barn which we absolutely love! I could sit on this sofa with praise hands all day. The elegant sloped arms suggests a sophisticated yet relaxed look. We placed two matching arm chairs and ottomans across the oversized table to offer additional seating during parties. We envisioned this space would be full of friends and family fairly often and since then it has.
Now to the table. Paul and I searched high and low for a table like Amber Interiors Connecticut table. We know we wanted something oversized to use for game nights, and lots of space underneath to add function to the space. But with the dimensions we needed it was just too hard to settle for something less, and we could not justify spending over 4,000 dollars on a table so we decided to build our own for $700 using fresh slabs of walnut wood. It took us about 2 months to make but it was worth it and is now one our favorite pieces in our home!
We still have some upcoming plans for phase 2 of this room like adding beams and shiplap to the ceiling. We have toyed around with the idea of building out the fireplace and adding a wood mantle. But we are still swamped in other house projects right now so we are so happy to be able to use this special space as planned. Next up, I am going to do a full kitchen reveal, and a living room refresh so in the meantime, make sure to follow along on my instagram to see more progress! What trim color did you use with alabaster? It all looks fantastic!
Jenna Christian says
Hi Amy! I actually used Alabaster in Satin. The walls are in a matte finish. The Satin finish actually provides a slightly lighter version of the same color so it’s a great look. Thanks for your comment and hope that helps!

What size is your chandelier?
Jenna Christian says
It is 48″ wide. Hope that helps!
